Cognitive behavioral therapist at Natural Health Center
Maria Kennedy, a cognitive behavioral therapist at Natural Health Center, is a board-certified Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
As a cognitive behavioral therapist, Maria’s philosophy about mental health care aligns with an integrated or eclectic approach; she tailors her clinical modality to fit each client’s specific needs. Maria believes in working with her clients to identify presenting problems and create attainable goals.
Her therapeutic techniques include brief intervention therapy, client-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and family systems therapy. Maria has a special interest in expressive art therapies and is currently receiving training for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy.
Maria provides both individual therapy and couples therapy. She specializes in working with adults and seniors who experience conflict, stress, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, chronic pain/illness, issues related to caregiving, and end-of-life transition.
Maria spent most of her life traveling overseas. After graduating from West Virginia University with her bachelor’s degree in art and a minor in art history, Maria decided to move to Anchorage to pursue her master’s degree in social work. She enjoys learning about Alaska’s cultural history and taking advantage of Alaska’s beautiful outdoors whenever possible. She enjoys hiking and camping with her family, creating and teaching arts and crafts, and travels whenever possible.
