Dr. Leah Humphries
Female chiropractor in Anchorage
Dr. Leah Humphries is an athlete, female chiropractor and a fierce advocate for better care, particularly for women. "I am tired of the status quo and am constantly working to change what healthcare means to the individual and the level of care one expects. My hope is to help people discover resilience in the healing process, empower them to be an active part of their recovery, and to foster autonomy as opposed to dependence on the doctor to 'fix' them," she says.
Dr. Humphries grew up in Southern Louisiana, yet found a love for ice hockey that allowed her to travel around the U.S. and Canada, chasing and developing her passion. In high school, she attended the National Sports Academy and through the training she received there, Dr. Humphries developed distinct advantages in her life. Her passion for sport and performance led her to the academic pursuit of anatomy, neuroscience and biomechanics. She graduated from Adrian College with a bachelor's in exercise science in 2009 and completed her Doctor in Chiropractic at New York Chiropractic College in 2015. Her mission is to help other people know what it's like to feel powerful in their bodies, minds and lives.
"I want people to feel unapologetic and powerful in the face of adversity, " she says. "I’m not here to criticize your movement, your body, your choices. By very definition, my job is to get you doing the activities you love, NOT pull you from them. I want to show you where you are capable, where you can become more capable, and how you can ultimately reach your goals and learn to live a healthier, happier, more fluid life. I'm in the business of empowerment."
